Mississippi State Bulldogs begin prep work for 2011 baseball season

By NEMS Daily Journal

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State will start preparing today for what it hopes is the season that gets the program back to winning.
The Bulldogs open preseason drills today, exactly three weeks before their 2011 opener against Akron. Third-year coach John Cohen’s team is coming off a tough 2010, when it went 23-33 overall and 6-24 in SEC play, the worst league mark in program history.
MSU returns 15 lettermen, including nine of the 14 position players that drew starts last year and nine of the 14 pitchers that saw action. Among the top returnees are infielder Nick Vickerson (.328 average, eight home runs) and pitcher Chris Stratton (5-3, 5.29 ERA).
All practices at Dudy Noble Field will be open to the public.
