Mississippi State earns first-round softball tourney game against top seed Alabama

Mississippi State’s softball team will get a national platform on Thursday, the first day of the SEC tournament in Oxford.
The eighth seeded Bulldogs (24-31, 10-18 SEC) will play top seeded Alabama at the Ole Miss Softball Complex in a 7 p.m. game to be seen on ESPN.
The Crimson Tide (45-7, 19-6 SEC) swept a three-game set from visiting MSU in April.
Alabama beat Ole Miss 10-1 on Sunday to clinch a second consecutive regular-season SEC title. Also Sunday, MSU lost 10-2 at Georgia.
Other first-round games: Tennessee vs. Kentucky, Florida vs. Auburn and LSU vs. Georgia. Those games will be seen on ESPNU.
The semifinals will be Friday, the championship game on Saturday.
