STARKVILLE — Ravern Johnson scored 33 points to lead Mississippi State to a 92-83 overtime victory over Troy on Friday night.
Mississippi State (3-0) opened the overtime period on a 10-4 run and never trailed the rest of the game.
Troy (1-3) led 38-34 at halftime and for most of the second half. But a late 15-2 run gave the Bulldogs a 67-65 lead, their first of the second half, with 4:54 to play.
Trailing 74-71 with 2.5 seconds remaining, Trojans guard Vernon Taylor hit a 3-pointer as time expired to send the game into overtime.
Brian Bryant scored 15 points for the Bulldogs, while Riley Benock added 12. Kodi Augustus finished with 11 and Jalen Steele chipped in 10.
Taylor paced the Trojans with 24 points and Bernard Toombs added 19. Levan Patsatsia scored 15 points, Travis Lee 12 and Shawntez Patterson 11.
