Mississippi State signs guard Andre Applewhite

STARKVILLE — New Mississippi State coach Rick Ray added his second player in as many days on Thursday after signing guard Andre Applewhite.

Applewhite is a 6-foot-5 guard from Memphis, Tenn., who averaged 21.3 points and 11.1 rebounds in his senior season of high school. He joins point guard Jacoby Davis in Ray’s first signing class.

Ray said in a statement that he was “excited about the future of Andre and his continued development at Mississippi State because he’s a willing worker.”

Ray continues to rebuild a roster that was decimated by attrition in the offseason. All five starters must be replaced from a Bulldogs’ team that finished with a 21-12 record last season.
