STARKVILLE – Mississippi State is making good on its promise to play more football games against in-state teams.
The school announced Thursday that it had added Alcorn State to its 2010 schedule. The teams will meet in Starkville on Oct. 2.
UAB was originally scheduled to visit Davis Wade Stadium that day, but that game was moved to Oct. 23, which was an open date for MSU.
The Bulldogs opened the 2009 season against Jackson State, which like Alcorn is a member of the SWAC. The Bulldogs have also renewed their rivalry with Southern Miss, with dates set for 2014 and ‘15.
ASU will receive a $315,000 paycheck, the same amount Jackson State was paid.
“I think we have tried to show that we very much identity with the state of Mississippi and that we have felt it’s important, when it works within in our schedule, to play our in-state schools,” MSU Athletics Director Greg Byrne said.
