8TB6_MSU_primary_logoMississippi State finished the 2013 season ranked No. 2 in the country.

The Diamond Dogs will begin this year with the same ranking. Collegiate Baseball gave MSU a No. 2 preseason ranking two points behind top-ranked Cal. State Fullerton.

It is the Bulldogs highest preseason ranking since being picked No. 1 prior to the 1989 season when John Cohen was a junior. That season State went on to win a school-record 54 games and SEC Championship.

The Diamond Dogs return 19 lettermen from a squad that finished 51-20 as the national runner-up to UCLA in the College World Series finals in Omaha, Neb.

Eight SEC teams were listed among the Top 40 – LSU (3), Vanderbilt (9), South Carolina (14), Florida (16), Texas A&M (25), Alabama (29) and Ole Miss (30).
