MSU guard DeVille Smith hospitalized with illness

While Mississippi State fans exited Humphrey Coliseum in high spirits after MSU defeated Pikeville 94-70 on Friday, the mood in the post-game press conference was somber as head coach Rick Stansbury announced freshman point guard DeVille Smith has been in the hospital since Thursday morning.
Stansbury said Smith had been continually experiencing headaches, dizziness and trouble with his memory before ultimately needing hospitalization.
“It got to the point where he just couldn’t go another day,” Stansbury said.
Smith has been through testing by physicians in Jackson, but Stansbury said they do not yet know what the cause of his symptoms is.
Stansbury did note that, “It’s no fever,” and said it came on gradually.
At this point, Stansbury said he is unsure how serious Smith’s condition is, but said he does not expect him back for MSU’s season-opener against Eastern Kentucky in Starkville on Monday night.
