STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — George Brooks, the former basketball coach at Meridian Community College, has joined the staff at Mississippi State.

Head basketball coach Rick Stansbury says the 37-year-old Brooks spent the last 12 years at MCC. He played for the Bulldogs from 1992-94 and was a student assistant coach for Richard Williams during MSU’s run to the 1996 Final Four.

Brooks, a native of Lafayette, Ala., left MSU following the 1996 magical season to become an assistant at Meridian CC. One year later, he was named head coach.
