MSU men’s tennis wins first SEC Western crown

Mississippi State’s 25th-ranked men’s tennis team beat host Alabama 5-2 on Sunday. That win, coupled with Auburn’s victory over Ole Miss, clinched the SEC Western Division title for the Bulldogs (12-7, 7-3 SEC).
It’s the first SEC West crown for MSU since the league went to the divisional format in 2002. The Bulldogs’ 7-3 league mark is the team’s best since the 1998 MSU squad started 8-2 and went on to reach the NCAA semifinals.
For Ole Miss, Sunday’s loss ended the Rebels’ streak of nine straight SEC West titles. It also marked their first loss to Auburn in 24 matches.
Softball: No. 8 Tennessee topped Ole Miss 9-0 in five innings to wrap up the sweep. … MSU fell 5-4 in eight innings to No. 22 Auburn, which clinched the weekend series. Courtney Nesbit drove in a pair of runs in the loss.
Women’s tennis: Ole Miss beat Auburn 4-0 to snap a three-match skid. … MSU lost 7-0 to Alabama.
