MSU releases signee Gray, Ray on recruiting trail

As expected, Mississippi State released basketball signee Josh Gray from his scholarship, the school confirmed Wednesday.
Gray, a point guard from Wheatley, Texas, said last month that he would ask for a release after coach Rick Stansbury retired. Gray signed with State during the fall signing period.
Under an SEC bylaw, if Gray transfers to another SEC school then he cannot receive financial aid from that institution for his first two years in residence.
MSU now has four signees remaining in its 2012 class, and with only five scholarship players returning, new coach Rick Ray can add up to four more players. The spring signing period began Wednesday, and Ray’s coaching staff is on the road this week trying to beef up the class.
Gray did not return calls seeking comment.
