MSU sweeps finale for fifth SEC victory

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State avoided the SEC West cellar Friday night with its 3-0 win over Alabama to finish the volleyball season.
Caitlin Rance had 10 kills and Channelle Baker nine kills to lead MSU in the 25-19, 25-22, 25-18 to finish 9-23 overall and 5-15 in the SEC West, ahead of Ole Miss (4-16, 10-20). Jenny Hazelwood’s first team won three of their last four matches.
In other SEC volleyball news:
Florida’s 18-year run as SEC champions came to an end this fall. LSU claimed the league title with an 18-2 record, with Kentucky at 17-3 and Tennessee and Florida at 16-4. Florida beat South Carolina 3-0 on Friday night, earning head coach Mary Wise her 600th win at Gainesville.
