AUBURN, Ala. – Erin Nesbit hit the game-winning home runs in both games as Mississippi State swept Auburn 3-2 and 2-1 on Wednesday. The wins moved MSU a game ahead of Auburn for eighth place in the chase for an SEC tournament berth.
Senior All-American Chelsea Bramlett went 5 for 7, including a pair of triples, as MSU swept the Tigers for the first time since the 2001 season.
Nesbit hit the game-clinching home run in the sixth inning of the opener before breaking a 1-1 tie in Game 2 with a fifth-inning drive, her sixth of the season, over the fence in right-center.
The freshman from Acworth, Ga., also added a double in the series opener en route to a 3 for 5, two-RBI afternoon.
“Erin was our offense today,” Mississippi State Jay Miller said.
Misty Flesher and Lindsey Dunlap went the distance in both games as the Dawgs improved to 26-24 overall and 7-15 in SEC play. Auburn fell to 23-22, 6-16 in the league.
Wednesday’s sweep wrapped up MSU’s road slate for this season. The Bulldogs close with tough three-game Saturday home series against No. 3
Florida and No. 5 Alabama.
