Mississippi State will use Parker Executive Search to aid in its search for a new men’s basketball coach.
The Atlanta-based firm has helped several schools find coaches, including Tennessee (Cuonzo Martin), N.C. State (Mark Gottfried) and Miami (Jim Larranaga). Illinois is currently using Parker to find a replacement for Bruce Weber.
Rick Stansbury retired last week after 14 years as MSU’s head coach. He was the 18th head coach in program history, and the longest tenured.
MSU athletics director Scott Stricklin said using a search firm is important because “they can do a lot of groundwork and make connections. Especially in a situation where people are playing and you want to be respectful but you also want to put feelers out.”
Parker also helped MSU two years ago when it was looking for a new athletics director. Stricklin was hired as Greg Byrne’s replacement.
