MSU takes on USM; Rebels battle Memphis at AutoZone Park

baseball_icon_greenNo. 17 Mississippi State attempts to get back into the win column tonight at Trustmark Park in Pearl against Southern Miss. The annual meeting between the Magnolia State schools is slated for 6:30 p.m.

The Diamond Dogs (20-13) were swept over the weekend at LSU, dropping their first SEC series of the year.

MSU leads the series over the Golden Eagles 78-36 including five straight. The Bulldogs won last year’s outing 13-5 at the home of the Mississippi Braves.

USM is 19-14 on the year taking two games from Middle Tennessee State over the weekend.

The Golden Eagles will start sophomore right-hander Cody Carroll (2-0, 2.75) on the mound while State has not announced a starting pitcher.

Ole Miss baseball, ranked No. 19 in this week’s release of the Baseball America Top 25 is back on the field today against a regional rival.

The Rebels (25-8) take on the Memphis Tigers tonight at 6:30 at AutoZone Park, home of the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds.

Ole Miss is back at home Wednesday night at 6:30 against Murray State.

Memphis has won four straight and five of the last six in the series including a 4-1 decision March 5 in Oxford.

The Tigers are 18-14 overall, 3-6 in the American Athletic Conference.

Memphis had a chance to win its weekend series at Louisville, but the Cardinals scored six runs over the final two innings then won with a walk-off single in the 12th inning. Louisville won two of the three games.

The Tigers are hitting .257 as a team and have a collective earned run average of 3.60.
