Tupelo native Leonard McCullough will be presented with the Leo Seal Jr. Award prior to today’s UAB-Mississippi State football game.
The award is not given annually but is periodically bestowed upon an alumnus who has displayed service and loyalty to the school over the years. McCullough, a 1949 MSU graduate, played football for the Bulldogs and was an assistant coach from 1954-56, 1957-59, and 1964-68.
He also earned a Ph.D from State and later became the school’s dean of continuing education.
“He embodies the characteristics that make Mississippi special,” said his nephew, Glenn McCullough, who noted that former MSU and NFL linebacker D.D. Lewis has cited Leonard McCullough as a major influence.
