STARKVILLE – The big secret is finally out.
Scott Stricklin will be introduced as Mississippi State’s new athletics director today at a 2 p.m. press conference at the Bryan Building.
The hire comes nearly seven weeks after Greg Byrne was hired as Arizona’s new AD. Byrne stayed on at MSU until April 30 while the school conducted what President Dr. Mark Keenum billed as a national search.
Keenum solicited the help of Parker Executive Search in Atlanta, and details of the process were kept well-guarded. Stricklin, who turns 40 on Saturday, was widely thought from the get-go to be a leading candidate and had strong support within the athletic department.
Stricklin was hired in the summer of 2008 as MSU’s associate AD for external affairs, and in that role he led major fundraising efforts.
He’s also worked in athletic departments at Kentucky, Baylor, Tulane and Auburn.
