MSU won’t have starter Bracewell for SEC opener

Ben Bracewell will not be available to pitch for No. 21 Mississippi State when it opens its 2012 SEC schedule at No. 13 LSU on Friday.
Bracewell, a sophomore right-hander, will miss his second consecutive start due to soreness in his throwing elbow, coach John Cohen said. So MSU (14-4) must find someone else to start that game, and that’s what Cohen is trying to figure out.
One possibility he mentioned was closer Caleb Reed, who has thrown a lot of long relief in his career. Cohen said that option is “possible but unlikely,” and he hopes to have a starter figured out by this morning.
Bracewell has been doing some light throwing, but Cohen didn’t have to watch any of that to take him out of the rotation.
“It’s more from him and from our trainer,” he said.
