Two days after scoring a career-high 29 points against UCLA, Mississippi State junior Ravern Johnson was named the SEC Player of the Week on Monday.
Johnson, a 6-foot-7 guard from Lyon, averaged 21.5 points last week in wins over DePaul and UCLA. He shot 73.9 percent from the field in those two games, including 64.3 percent (9 of 14) from 3-point range.
For the season, Johnson leads MSU in scoring with 14.4 points per game. He’s shooting 54.8 percent overall and 48.2 percent from 3-point range, which ranks second in the SEC.
Alexis Rack named SEC Co-Player Of The Week
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State senior Alexis Rack was named the SEC Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week announced by the league office on Monday. The honor marks the second time this season Rack has garnered the award and the third time of her career.
In the lone game this past week, Rack scored 32 points in a winning effort at Louisiana Tech. The senior guard from Franklin, La., scored 11 key points in a 15-0 run in the second half, overcoming a 10-point deficit to the Lady Techsters. She also added four rebounds, two assists and six steals in the game.
Currently on the season, Rack leads the Lady Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 20.6 points a game. Rack also leads State in assists (39), steals (24) and minutes a game (30.8). Rack now ranks seventh on the MSU career scoring list with 1,364 points.
Rack becomes just the second Lady Bulldog to win the award twice in one season, joining LaToya Thomas who accomplished the feat
