Mississippi State golfer Ally McDonald has earned a spot in the field of the 112th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.
The Fulton native, who just completed a stellar freshman season for MSU, will begin play at The Country Club in Pepper Pike, Ohio, on Aug. 6 with stroke play. After two rounds in that format, the tourney moves to match play and will conclude Aug. 12.
McDonald qualified by shooting a 72 on Monday at the Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. That tied for the best score in that qualifying sectional.
McDonald made the All-SEC Freshman team this year, competed in the NCAA West Regional, and won the Mississippi Women’s Golf Association state championship earlier this summer.
“She’s played the best golf to this point in her life,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “It’s good to see her post a round that can elevate herself to U.S. Amateur status.”
