MSU's Schmidt to coach Team USA distance runners

STARKVILLE – One week after leading his team to a Top 20 showing at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oregon, Mississippi State coach Al Schmidt has been named the U23 distance coach for the Team USA squad that will be competing at the NACAC Championships.

Action in Miramar, Fla., begins on July 9 and concludes July 11.

Schmidt, who just completed his 22nd year at MSU, also coached this team in 2008.

“It’s an honor to be picked again,” Schmidt said. “I’m very fortunate to be wearing the USA uniform once again.”

Schmidt isn’t the only one representing MSU. Tavaris Tate will be competing in the 400, while O’Neal Wilder has been selected as an alternate.
