MSU’s Varnado seeking
feedback from NBA
n STARKVILLE – Mississippi State junior Jarvis Varnado has filed paperwork that will allow him to receive feedback on his status in the 2009 NBA Draft.
Varnado, a 6-foot-9 center, signed a form, provided by the NBA advisory committee, Monday night after accepting the Howell Trophy in Jackson. It allows him to get an evaluation of his strengths and weaknesses and where he might go in the June 25 draft.
Underclassmen must declare for the draft by April 26.
Varnado, a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year, led the Bulldogs this season with 12.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game. His father, Winston Varnado, said Thursday a decision could still be a ways off.
“He wants to try (the NBA), but then again he doesn’t want to try it, because he wants to come back to Mississippi State,” the elder Varnado said.
