MSU's women's team hosts Valley tonight before long holiday break

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women’s basketball team will close out its non-conference home slate Monday evening against Mississippi Valley State. The Lady Bulldogs and Devilettes will tip at 7 p.m. CT at the Humphrey Coliseum.

Mississippi State is 6-3 after splitting two games on the road against Southern Miss and Xavier. Junior guard Diamber Johnson continues to pace MSU, scoring 12.8 points a contest. Mary Kathryn Govero is scoring 11.9 points a game after a 16-point performance against Xavier on Friday.

Led by head coach Nate Kilbert, Mississippi Valley State enters Monday’s game with a 2-6 record. The Devilettes are led in scoring by junior guard/forward De’Kisha Fondon. Fondon is scoring 9.6 points a game and led MVSU with 21 points in their last outing against Ole Miss. Junior guard Ka’Nesia Smith is pacing MVSU with 5.5 rebounds a game.

Mississippi State and MVSU had met 14 previous times on the hardwood dating back to 1978. The Lady Bulldogs hold a 12-2 advantage in the series, including an 88-53 victory last season in Starkville.

Following Monday’s game and a 9-day layoff, Mississippi State will close out its non-conference schedule at the Christmas City Classic in Bethlehem, Pa. State will play Buffalo on Dec. 29 and either Lehigh or Rider on Dec. 30.
