ITTA BENA — Mississippi Valley State University has announced a $5.5 million renovation at its football stadium, including a new east grandstand.

President Donna H. Oliver said Friday that construction will begin April 4 and will be done in time for the 2011 home opener against Alabama State on Sept. 3.

Oliver says the project is being funded with money from the state. The East Grandstand will have 5,000 seats. A concourse under the grandstand will include restrooms, a first aid room, vendor stalls, and space for food/merchandise kiosks.

There will be a club-level deck atop the grandstand.

Oliver says the school hopes to raise another $2 million from private donors for additional work at the stadium to include a new scoreboard, improved lighting and ramps.
