JACKSON – Mississippi State will play in its fourth straight NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The Bulldogs (22-10) were seeded ninth in the Austin, Texas, Regional.

They'll face eighth-seeded Stanford (18-12) in a first-round game Friday in Charlotte, N.C. The winner will face either top-seeded Duke (25-5) or No. 16 seed Delaware State (19-13) in the second round.

Stanford won the only previous meeting with Mississippi State, 76-56 on Dec. 21, 1999, in the Pete Newell Challenge in Oakland, Calif.

Mississippi State was the lowest seeded of the five Southeastern Conference teams in the tournament. Kentucky is a No. 2 seed, Florida is a 4, Alabama received a 5 and LSU is a 6.

The Bulldogs are 9-7 in seven previous appearances in the NCAA tournament, including a Final Four berth in 1996. Since then, though, they haven't survived the opening weekend, falling in the first round once and in the second round twice – including an 89-74 loss to Xavier in 2004.
