BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College head tennis coach Ben Shappley made a splash with his first recruiting class.

Shappley picked up the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s (MHSAA) top Class 4A player in the state as Lewisburg High School’s Joseph Shidler agreed to become a Tiger during a ceremony at the DeSoto County based school on Monday, April 29.

Shappley, who had a freshman-filled women’s team in 2013 and made a run in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Tournament, added Olive Branch’s Lindsey Clark to the Lady Tiger roster during his trek into DeSoto County.

Northeast’s latest tennis signees will both be in Jackson for the MHSAA State Tennis Championships.

Shidler was named the top ranked Class 4A tennis player in the state of Mississippi when coaches met to seed individual players for the upcoming MHSAA State Tennis Championships on May 1-3 at the Bridges Tennis Center in Jackson.

Shidler will open up the individual portion of the state tennis championships with the sixteenth-ranked player in the state on Thursday, May 2.

Clark advanced to the Class 6A State Tennis Tournament in Jackson after picking up a seed in the women’s doubles event and will also open play at Bridges Tennis Center in Jackson on Thursday, May 2.
