NEMS native Smith takes Meridian baseball post

MERIDIAN – Charlie Smith, a coach with strong Northeast Mississippi ties, was named Meridian High’s new head baseball coach on Tuesday.
Smith, 48, a 1981 graduate of Aberdeen High School, previously served as an assistant varsity baseball and football coach at Starkville High. He also coached junior high baseball in Starkville.
His head-coaching stints include stops at Aberdeen High, Hatley Attendance Center and Louisville High. With 20 years of experience as a head coach, Smith spent 14 years at Louisville.
He has also been a member of the Northeast Mississippi Coaches Association for Better Baseball.
