PONTOTOC – Needing a win to assure itself of the Division 1-4A regular-season championship and the top seed in the upcoming division tournament, Tadarious Coburn and New Albany took care of business.
Coburn scored 23 points to help the Bulldogs (16-7, 8-0) to a 60-54 win over the Pontotoc Warriors (12-12, 4-3) on Tuesday night.
“Tadarious is a very dominant player inside,” said New Albany head coach Brad Gray. “He’s good around the basket and can finish. He also is a great rebounder.
“On the defensive end, he helps alter shots in the paint, and that allows our guards to get out and pressure the ball more.”
The host Warriors pulled to within 55-50 with 44.7 seconds left in the game, but New Albany’s Kareem Brown put the game on ice, connecting on 2 of 3 from the free-throw line.
Pontotoc’s Josh Green scored a game-high 24 points despite missing much of the first half after picking up two fouls early in the first quarter.

They clinched the 1-4A regular-season championship and a No. 1 seed in the division tournament.
Ebony Brinker led Pontotoc (18-3, 6-2) with 18 points, while Katherine Downing added 15 points.
