New Albany’s protest of the Class 4A golf championship results was faxed to the Mississippi High School Activities Association office about 4 p.m. on Thursday. The MHSAA executive director, interviewed earlier in the afternoon, said his staff was already aware of the situation and a ruling could be forthcoming today.
At issue is a swing on the last hole Wednesday by an Itawamba golfer, Taylor Boggs. He contends he took a practice swing at a ball in the brush; New Albany’s coach and golfers contend it was a swing and that Boggs whiffed and failed to record the stroke on his scorecard.
If Boggs is disqualified, New Albany would be declared the Class 4A champion. If the ruling of the tournament committee is upheld, Itawamba would be the champion.
“I’m letting my guys investigate it,” Dr. Ennis Proctor told the Daily Journal. “We can’t really discuss it right now.”
