OXFORD – North Mississippi’s newest competitive sports organization will host tryouts for this fall’s Mississippi Flood Futbol Club next week at a new sportsplex south of Oxford.
The club will field teams in several age and gender brackets from the U8 soccer academy to U18 boys and girls to play against similarly organized teams from metro Memphis, metro Jackson and the Gulf Coast.
“The Mississippi Flood Futbol Club is aimed at training the most competitive soccer players in north Mississippi to compete at the highest level of select soccer,” said Dr. Michael Perry, one of the club’s organizers. “This club allows children from the U8 soccer academy to the U18 boys and girls to benefit from the best and most experienced coaches … to develop the player to his/her maximum potential.”
Perry said the Flood will be North Mississippi’s only All-Select program for soccer, operating in league with other competitive teams around the South.
“The Flood has already attracted players already from Memphis, Grenada, Pontotoc, Amory, Saltillo, Greenwood, Tupelo and Oxford,” he said.
Tryouts will be held at the club’s home field at a new privately owned sportsplex two miles south the Highway 7/9W split.
