JACKSON — New turf will be in place at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium to for Jackson State’s game against Grambling on Sept. 19.
Event manager Tom Cooper says the stadium worked with Mississippi State University to improve the hybrid Bermuda grass that makes up the field.
Cooper says the aggressive process includes mowing, special fertilizers, insecticides and nutrients. Cooper says it cost $35,000 for the process, and that doesn’t include water.
The hybrid Bermuda grass has thin blades that stand tall and close. Cooper expects the field to actually play faster.
