No. 19 Delta State gets bye in Division II playoff field

After claiming a share of the Gulf South Conference championship, the No. 19 Delta State University football team received the No. 2 seed and and a first round bye in the upcoming NCAA Division II Championships.
The Statesmen (8-3) will play the winner of Saturday’s game game between Valdosta State (8-2) and North Alabama (8-3) on Saturday, Nov. 27 in Cleveland.
The other side of the Super Regional II bracket features No. 1 seed Albany State (10-0), which awaits a meeting between the winner of a matchup between Wingate (8-2) and Morehouse (8-2).
The Statesmen (8-3) are making their third appearance in the NCAA Division II playoffs in four years under head coach Ron Roberts, who led the team to the quarterfinals in 2008.
Delta State is 9-4 all-time in five previous playoff trips, winning the D-II title in 2000.
This year’s field will be looking to end their season on Dec. 18 at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala.
