UPDATE: Mississippi State players OL Blaine Clausell, DT Fletcher Cox, QB Dylan Favre, LB Chris Hughes, TE Malcolm Johnson have been suspended for tonight’s game. Players were suspended for “various violations of team policy” and will be available for Auburn game next week, per team spokesperson. More at Brad Locke’s blog link below.

In mere hours, No. 20 Mississippi State will open its 2011 season against Memphis. The Bulldogs got to town last night in preparation for only their second season-opening road game in 10 years, and first since 2008.

Expectations are certainly high among the MSU coaches and players.

“Me, I’m fired up. I can’t wait,” third-year coach Dan Mullen said Monday. “You’ve been with these guys, you’ve been practicing this for eight or nine months and preparing this team for the next 12 hours of the regular season.”

Today’s game: No. 20 MSU at Memphis, 7 p.m., SportSouth (Ron Thulin, J.C. Pearson and Jeremy Bloom), XM 85, Sirius 85.
