FLORENCE, Ala. — The University of North Alabama is looking for a new football coach following Terry Bowden’s departure to Akron.

Athletic director Mark Linder tells the TimesDaily of Florence that he’s already hearing from coaches who are interested in the job.

Bowden resigned at North Alabama and was hired at Akron on Dec. 22. The former Auburn coach was officially introduced as the new coach of the Zips at a news conference on Wednesday.

Linder says he is meeting with former players to get their input on the coaching search. He says a search committee with include some former players as well as faculty, coaches and members of the athletic staff at North Alabama.

The committee will meet for the first time on Friday to begin reviewing candidates.
