Iuka native Emily Barnes, a junior outfielder at North Alabama, was named the Gulf South Conference’s East Division Player of the Week.
Barnes had a huge day in an April 20 doubleheader against Trevecca, finishing 7 for 9 with three home runs, including a grand slam, and nine RBIs. She continuer her assault on pitching Sunday, going 3 for 4 with a homer and the game-winning two-run single in the first game of a doubleheader with league rival West Georgia.
For the week, she hit .611 with four homers and 15 RBIs.
A product of Tishomingo County High school, Barnes played at Northwest-Shoals in 2008 and at Northeast Mississippi in 2009. Last season at Northeast, she hit .579.
