North Pontotoc receiver Marcus Green tweeted late Wednesday night that he has committed to Louisiana-Monroe.
Green attended last week’s Big Dawg weekend in Starkville and clocked a 4.31 in the 40-yard dash. He expressed interest in Mississippi State and said they along with Memphis have contacted him.
Green received a scholarship offer from Louisiana-Monroe in June and visited the campus shortly after.
“In-state is important to me (but) I don’t mind being away from home. (Louisiana-Monroe has) a great staff and I think they’re going to have a good year,” Green told the Journal’s Brandon Speck last week.
Last season, the 5-foot-9, 180-pound Green caught 53 passes for 994 yards and 13 touchdowns. He made 28 tackles at defensive back.
The Warhawks are coming off their first bowl appearance in school history, a 45-14 loss to Ohio in the Independence Bowl. The team threw for 3779 yards and return senior quarterback Kolton Browning, who accounted for more than 3000, for 2013. Barring injury and medical redshirt, Browning will be gone by time Green joins the team.
