BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College’s baseball program will hold its second alumni weekend on Saturday, October 9 at Harold T. White Field in Booneville.
Northeast brought in alumni from five different decades during its first-ever alumni weekend in 2008 before the 2009 was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Registration for the one-day event will start at 9:30 a.m. at Harold T. White Field inside Booneville City Park and batting practice begin approximately 30 minutes later at 10 a.m. for all former players.
Recognition of current and former players will take place at approximately 11:15 a.m. before the baseball alumni suit up one more time to take on the 2010-11 Tiger baseball team.
Northeast head baseball coach Kent Farris has scheduled the alumni event as a way of evaluating talent but the alumni event will serve two purposes.
Not only will alumni return to the college but Farris hopes the alumni event will allow the Tigers to get in a fall scrimmage after competition against other schools during the fall semester was cut out during the offseason.
Format for the second alumni game will see the Tiger pitching staff throwing for both squads, which is different from the opening alumni game in 2008 where each team used a variety of pitchers ranging from the 1970s through the 2008 season to try to quell the opposition.
During the first alumni event, the 1962 State Championship team made its return to the campus along with coach Hal Hughes who presented Farris with the 1962 State Championship trophy and a photo of the team.
