Northeast, EMCC baseball must forfeit next 2 games

By NEMS Daily Journal

The baseball teams from both Northeast Mississippi Community College and East Mississippi must forfeit their next two games after an altercation ended the teams’ doubleheader on Wednesday in Booneville.
The ruling by the National Junior College Athletic Association was announced Thursday and will spoil Northeast’s scheduled doubleheader in Fulton on Saturday with ICC.
Wednesday afternoon’s Game 2 was called in the top of the fourth inning with East Mississippi leading 4-2.
Spectators described a “bench-clearing brawl” before the game was called.
ICC will press ahead with plans to honor a former baseball head coach on Saturday by officially naming its playing field Roy Cresap Field. That ceremony will begin at the Davis Event Center at 1 p.m., with a ribbon cutting at the field to be followed by an intersquad game.
