Northeast football player signs with the Rangers

BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College head football coach Ricky Smither has announced that former Tiger offensive lineman Darryl Petty signed with Northwestern Oklahoma State University (NWOSU).

Petty, signed with the Rangers on May 26 much to the delight of Northwestern offensive line coach Justin Iske.

“We are extremely excited about Darryl signing with us. He will be a great fit for us here at NWOSU both on and off the field. Darryl will continue the great tradition of offensive linemen that we have established and will contribute to our program immediately,” explained Iske.

Petty, a 6-3 305-pound offensive lineman from Southaven, Miss., played in the thirty-fifth annual Mississippi Association of Community/Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Classic held December 6, 2008 at Keenum Stadium in Booneville. He will now look to become a part of the NWOSU tradition.

A NAIA power, the NWOSU Rangers have been in the national playoffs eight of the last ten seasons, including three national title game appearances and a national title in 1999.

The NAIA school is under the direction of Keith Barefield and plays in the Central States Football League.
