BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College men’s basketball coach David Robbins has announced a pair of signings to his 2012-13 Tiger basketball recruiting class.
Baldwyn standouts Reggie Patterson and Ian Burress both agreed to become Tigers at a signing ceremony at the Northeast Booneville campus late last week.
Patterson and Burress helped lead the Baldwyn Bearcats to over 50 wins over the last two years and guided the Bearcats to the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship Game against S.V. Marshall at “The Big House” – Mississippi Coliseum – in Jackson.
Patterson developed a new role for the Bearcats during the 2011-12 season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the second game of the 2011 football season against Booneville.
With his new role, Patterson scored two points all season after a year leading the team with 23.2 points per game during the 2010-11 season. Patterson also paced the Bearcats in rebounds during the 2010-11 season.
Patterson’s only points of the 2011-12 season came during ‘Senior Night’ for the Bearcats as the Baldwyn senior tallied a basket against the East Union Urchins.
During the 2010-11 season, Patterson was an offensive threat for the Bearcats and scored over 20 points 14 different times for Baldwyn.
Patterson bypassed the 30-point plateau six times with his season-high coming against Ashland on January 22, 2011 in an 84-67 win when the then-Baldwyn junior scored 38 points in the win.
Patterson also scored 37 points in a 77-69 victory against Myrtle on January 6, 2011.
Patterson was an All-PrentissCounty selection in 2009 and 2011, an All-Division selection in 2010 and 2011 and was named to the All-State team in 2010.
Buress became a floor general for the Bearcats during their run to the Class 2A State Championship game during the 2011-12 season.
In a guard-oriented lineup, Burress averaged 6.9 points per game but rallied the Bearcats to beat the South’s top seed in the MHSAA Class 2A State Tournament in Jackson.
Burress scored double digits seven times for the Bearcats with a season-high 16 coming against Oxford in a 62-58 win on January 3.
Burress also had a quartet of14-point outings against Biggersville (W 78-67) on December 27, 2011, Mooreville (W 67-45) on December 29, 2011, Jumpertown (W 89-62) on January 13 and Piney Woods (W 67-56) on January 21.
Burress was named an All-Prentiss County selection three years straight from 2009-11 and was an All-Division selection for three consecutive years as well 2010-12.
In addition to his All-Prentiss County and All-Division honors, Burress was named to the All-North Half team in 2012 as well as the All-State team as the Bearcats made their trek to the Class 2A State Championship game.
With the addition of Burress and Patterson, Robbins has now inked four Tigers to the 2012-13 recruiting class including Booneville’s Keldrick Lasley and Darius Leach.
