Northeast signs a pair of golf standouts

BOONEVILLE – Northeast Mississippi Community College golf coach Craig Lauderdale opened his 2011-12 class with a pair of standouts.

Lauderdale signed Thrasher Attendance Center’s Daren Farrar and Muscle Shoals (Ala.) High School’s Austin Woodard in a ceremony inside the media room in the Haney Union on the Booneville campus on Wednesday, May 11.

Farrar played for Cal Worley during his varsity years for the Rebels while Woodardstarred for Derrick Gargis’ Trojans.

Farrar helped lead the Thrasher Rebel golf squad to a Top 5 finish in the 2010 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A Boys Golf Championships during the 2010 season.

During the 2010 golf championships, Farrar finished tied for seventh individually with a two-day 171.

During his senior season, Farrar earned co-medalist honors for a 41 in a match againstFalkner in early April and was named medalist for the Division 1-1A Tournament after shooting a 75.

Woodard was named the Muscle Shoals High School golf medalist for the past two years and was a member of the All-County Tournament team after helping lead Muscle Shoals to the title in 2009.

During his freshman and junior years, Woodard was named to the All-County team and was an all-area selection during the 2010 season.

In the 2009 Class 5A sectionals, Woodard helped propel Muscle Shoals High School to thesub-state tournament and was one of two players to advance to the Class 5A Section 4 tournament at Cypress Lakes Country Club in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
