Northwest Mississippi Community College freshman shortstop Jay King of Bruce was selected as the MACJC Baseball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.
King is the first Ranger to win the weekly hitting award and will also be considered for NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week honors which will be announced Wednesday.
King homered twice, drove in five runs and scored twice in a weekend sweep of 19th-ranked Jones County to help the Rangers advance to the state tournament that opens Thursday in Poplarville.
King, who had just one home run his senior year of high school at Bruce, has now homered in three of his last four games at Ranger Field.
For the season, King is hitting .311 with four homers, two doubles, 18 RBIs and 26 runs scored.
