Ole Miss baseball hires new assistant coach

Ole Miss baseball coach Mike Bianco has found his new hitting coach, Kansas State assistant Mike Clement.

The hiring was first reported on Thursday by Kendall Rogers of PerfectGame.org.

Clement replaces Cliff Godwin, who left Oxford after the College World Series to become head coach at his alma mater, East Carolina.

“Mike is a well respected hitting coach and will roll in recruiting,” Rogers said on his Twitter account.

Clement spent two seasons at K-State. His 2013 team hit .322 to rank No. 2 nationally. He previously spent three seasons at Texas A&M and four seasons at Texas-San Antonio.

The other finalist for the Ole Miss job was former Tulane assistant Jake Gautreau.
