The Ole Miss Rebel football team is back in the national polls at No. 25 in both the The Associated Press poll and USA Today Top 25. It is the first national football ranking for the Rebels since 2009.

Ole Miss (2-0) dug the trench for Southeast Missouri State in the first half but couldn’t bury the FCS Redhawks on Saturday night. The Rebels rolled up 532 yards and won 31-13 before 60,815 fans at sea-of-red Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Next up Ole Miss travels to Texas on Saturday. Texas came into the weekend ranked 15th in The AP poll, but a 40-21 loss at BYU in which Texas allowed a school-record 550 yards rushing has Mack Brown’s team unranked.

Full disclosure, I’m an Ole Miss fan and an Ole Miss grad. Bet on this: next week at this time, Ole Miss WILL NOT BE RANKED!!

Austin is a very tough trip for us. Texas defense doesn’t show up for BYU, Brown fires Diaz. They fall out of the top 25 and we get there? That bunch will be totally fired up Saturday. We have ours work cut out to stay close. Las Vegas says Texas by 4.5.
