Ole Miss frosh Gamble wins Alabama junior state title

BIRMINGHAM – Incoming Ole Miss men’s golf freshman Forrest Gamble fired a six under-par 65 on Wednesday to win the 67th Alabama State Junior Golf Championship at Mountain Brook Club.
Gamble, an 18-year old graduate of Vestavia High School, won the 16-18 year old division by one stroke. The event was shortened to one round after thunderstorms wiped out the second round.
“I am proud of Forrest,” said Ole Miss men’s golf head coach Ernest Ross. “He has had a fantastic summer. I know he will make an immediate impact on our program.”
The Birmingham, Ala., native tied for sixth place at the Southern Junior in Pinehurst, N.C., in June with a three round total of 221. Gamble finished tied for fifth at the Western Junior in Village of Golf, Fla., with
a four round total of 4-under 284 earlier this summer.
