Ole Miss, MSU help SEC claim track challenge

STARKVILLE – Ole Miss and Mississippi State teamed up with Tennessee to help the SEC win both the men’s and women’s Conference
Challenge against teams from the Big Ten, Missouri Valley and Western Athletic conferences on Saturday.
The SEC men outscored the challengers 287-264, while the SEC women won 360-217.
Rebel Onyi Afoaku was runner-up in the discus at 177-8.25 and placed sixth in the shot put at 52-6.5.
Bulldog Marcus Jackson cleared 7-2.50 in the high jump to earn a first-place finish, while Jason Harper, won the triple jump with a leap of 49-5.
In women’s action, Ole Miss’ Kayleigh Skinner won the 3,000 meters and
Haley Cutright claimed the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
MSU’s Allison Storey won the javelin with a throw of 40.53 meters,
while Ebony Brinker (Pontotoc) posted a 38-9 to win the triple jump.
