OXFORD – The Ole Miss Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will honor the late Michael Rubenstein with its Contribution to Amateur Football Award tonight at halftime of the Ole Miss-Vanderbilt basketball game.
The award honors those who’ve made numerous contributions to the college athletic world through a lifetime of service.
A native of Booneville and an honor graduate of Vanderbilt, Rubenstein died Dec. 1 following a lengthy illness. He became a sports icon in the state, first working in television and then as the only executive director of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, beginning in 1996.
“It was important to Michael that Mississippi’s rich sports history be protected and showcased,” said Frank Crosthwait, the chapter president.
