Barnes says Josh Hayes

parted on good terms’

OXFORD – For the first time, Barnes made a comment regarding the departure of forward Josh Hayes.

“Josh felt he needed to go somewhere for more playing time,” he said. “We parted on good terms. He is still one of us.”

Hayes did attend the game, and said he plans on remaining at Ole Miss through next semester.

“It was the toughest decision of my life,” he said. “It just didn’t happen. I’ve been thinking and praying about it for a long time. It was just a lot of things that built up. It didn’t have anything to do with the coaches. I love the coaches and the players. I wished the guys luck before the game.”

Barnes also said junior center John Gunn, who underwent kidney surgery four weeks ago, is out for the remainder of the season and will be redshirted.
