The coming of Orlando, Fla., quarterback Chris Wilkes on Tuesday completed a whirlwind of Ole Miss verbal commitments that increased the current list to 19 prospects for the Class of 2008.
Arm strength is the top attribute for Wilkes (6-4, 220), who has scholarship offers from Arizona State, Miami and Georgia Tech.
He has made unofficial visits to Arizona State and Miami but chose Ole Miss – which he will see for the first time in July – largely because he was told he'll have a chance to compete for the job right away.
Wilkes passed for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns for Class 6A Dr. Phillips High School.
Earlier this week the Rebels received commitments from the South Panola trio of defensive backs Darius Barksdale and Bud Barksdale and offensive lineman Quin Sanford, as well as Franklin County defensive lineman Josh Tillman, Moss Point defensive lineman Willie Packer and Northwest Community College defensive back Demareo Marr.
Verbal commitments are non-binding.
