The Ole Miss tennis teams have been picked by the league’s coaches to win the SEC Western Division this spring.
According to the poll released on Friday, Ole Miss’ men are a runaway favorite to win its ninth straight SEC West title. It received 68 votes to LSU’s 50, with Auburn third (40) and Mississippi State fourth (39). Alabma (38) and Arkansas (17) round out the division.
Tennessee is the overwhelming favorite to win the SEC title, receiving 10 of the 12 votes. The Vols (69 points) lead Florida and Georgia (55), Kenucky (37), Vanderbilt (21) and South Carolina (15).
The East has three teams in the nation’s top 11 – No.5 Tennessee, No. 7 Georgia and No.11 Florida. The SEC has six Top 20 teams – including No.10 Ole Miss, No.14 Kentucky and No. 18 Alabama.
In the women’s poll, No. 21 Ole Miss (66) edged Alabama (62), followed by Arkansas (50), Auburn (32), LSU (29) and Mississippi State (12). Florida was picked to win the overall SEC title, and got 71 poll votes, followed by Georgia (57), Tennessee and Vanderbilt (31), South Carolina (29) and Kentucky (12).
Ole Miss and Mississippi State play a non-league men’s match Monday in Jackson. The River Hills Mississippi Cup begins at 5 p.m. the River Hills Club. Ole Miss had beaten MSU in 23 straight matches. Ole Miss’ women host Southern Mississippi at 2 p.m. Tuesday; MSU’s women play South Alabama Jan. 30 in Miami.
