OXFORD – The Ole Miss women’s basketball team will go for its first SEC win tonight at 7 against Alabama at Tad Smith Coliseum.
The Rebels dropped their league opener 86-72 Sunday at Vanderbilt.
Ole Miss (9-5, 0-1 SEC) has won three of its last four games. The Rebels are averaging 88.6 points at home.
Senior guard Bianca Thomas continues to lead Ole Miss and the SEC with 21.1 points a game.
Point guard Kayla Melson is second in the SEC in assists at 5.8 per game.
Alabama is 8-6 overall, 0-1 in the SEC after dropping a 52-44 decision to No. 10 Georgia in Tuscaloosa Sunday.
The Crimson Tide has lost 27 of its last 28 SEC games. The Tide has lost 22-straight SEC road games and hasn’t won in an opponent’s gym since February of 2006.
Individually, junior guard Varisia Raffington leads the Crimson Tide and ranks 16th in the SEC with 12.5 points per game to go along with 4.9 rebounds per game. Junior forward Tierney Jenkins averages 11.2 points per game and ranks first on the team and first in the SEC with 10.3 rebounds per game. Jenkins is one of only three players in the conference to average a double-double.
